Company History
E J Construction founder, Erik Jokinen has a Finnish ancestry with a long history of master carpenters.
His great grandfather built clipper ships, one of which he would eventually sail to America with his new bride and settle in Baldwin, NY. He built the first Sauna on Long Island in his back yard in which Erik's father with his brothers spent many a winter day enduring the intense heat and then rolling around outside in the snow! Erik's grandfather ultimately started a thriving carpentry business with his son building expensive one-of-a-kind homes on Long Island and throughout Westchester County.
Erik has definitely followed in his ancestors footsteps: he worked in construction throughout high school and also while attending Alfred State College. After graduating, he worked for a general contractor in Penn Yan specializing in high end custom remodeling and restoration. He also did new construction on lake homes around Keuka and Seneca Lakes. Erik eventually moved to Victor and went to work for a custom home builder working on all aspects of building a new home but excelled in interior and exterior finish carpentry work. He was hired to do all "punch list" requirements and warranty work on new homes that the company built from the ground up. Deciding it was time to be on his own, EJ Construction was born in 1997.
Ten years later, with a three man crew, EJ Construction specializes in both interior and exterior custom finish carpentry, stair systems, entertainment centers, benches, cabinetry, decks and pergolas.
"My gut feeling tells me that we've been successful because of our fanatic attention to detail," Erik says, "that and our willingness to listen to our clients' wants and needs. We never would have been as successful as we are today if we built to suit our needs. Without a doubt, we're totally in business to build our customer's dreams. Our portfolio consists of many Homearama Homes as well as a Who's Who list of prestigious Rochester clients," he says with a smile. "We never, never skimp; we put the same quality of work in a home that's valued at two hundred thousand as one that's worth over five million.
"We also invest in the latest technology like a portable dust collection system for our saws and sanders with double Hepa filters for a much cleaner work environment. Our customers appreciate how clean their home is maintained during the work process. We also pride ourselves in respecting the work of the other craftsman involved on the job utilizing a full line of floor covering, countertop and doorjamb protection both in new and remodeling construction.
"However, EJ Construction extends beyond the interior work we do," Erik continues. "We also offer small backhoe work. we provide services for electric trenches, water lines, planting trees and shrubs, box scraping, gravel and mulch spreading."
EJ Construction works with new home builders and for individual homeowners who are planning on renovating. You can contact them at 585-742-1146 or by email on this site.
